Health Check-Up: Protect Your Health in Advance

A check-up can detect health problems before they start or early enough for successful treatment. Well Dems Travel Agency offers personalized check-up packages for your health.

What is a Medical Examination?

A health check-up is a comprehensive medical screening for healthy individuals. It includes medical tests, physical examinations, and health risk assessments. The goal is to assess your overall health and identify potential health problems at an early stage. Based on your results, your doctor may recommend lifestyle changes and other measures to keep you healthy.

The Importance of Regular Check-Ups

You may not feel the need to see a doctor when you feel healthy. However, regular check-ups allow you to identify potential health problems before they arise in the future. Just as a dental check-up can prevent the need for lengthy and complex dental treatments, routine medical check-ups detect health issues before they start or in their early stages. An assessment based on your health status, lifestyle, and family history can help you identify future health risks. For example, high cholesterol levels can lead to cardiovascular problems. A comprehensive health check-up can also detect "silent" chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. Early diagnosis helps you manage chronic conditions and prevent a decline in your overall health. Additionally, some simple tests can help detect serious diseases early when treatments are usually successful. Pap smear tests and cervical cancer screenings are examples of this. Therefore, a regular and comprehensive health check-up is an important tool for preventing serious illnesses.

What Does a Medical Examination Include?

Our individual health risks depend on factors such as age, gender, environment, genetic factors, family predispositions, lifestyle choices, and many other influences. Therefore, the components included in a medical examination vary from person to person and may change over time for the same individual. As a general rule, evaluation packages become more comprehensive with age: individuals over 40 should receive a more detailed health evaluation compared to those in their 20s. However, a typical examination program includes:

  • Review of your general health status, medical history, any existing conditions, habits, and lifestyle.
  • Blood and urine tests to check the functions of organs and systems such as the thyroid, liver, kidneys, and immune system.
  • Imaging tests such as X-rays, ultrasonography, or scans.
  • One or more physical examinations and consultations.
  • Based on the gathered information, your doctor may recommend additional tests and examinations such as heart and lung function tests, bone density scans, mammograms, colon or prostate cancer screenings, eye exams, and skin checks. A routine health evaluation may include a full head-to-toe check-up and specific screenings for certain diseases.

How Often Should You Get a Medical Check-Up?

It is recommended that every adult have a medical examination once a year, even if they have no complaints or symptoms. This is why it is also called an annual physical examination. However, for some young and healthy individuals with no family history of illness, a check-up every two or three years may be sufficient. A sensible approach would be to discuss with your doctor when your next visit should be.

What to Expect During a Health Check-Up?

A routine check-up begins with a discussion with your doctor about your medical history, medications you are taking, family predispositions, lifestyle, diet, and habits that may affect your health. This information helps your doctor understand the health risks you may face and determine the scope of the tests and examinations you will need. After completing all the tests and screenings, a follow-up review of the results will be conducted with the doctor. At Well Dems Travel Agency, our experienced check-up doctors can answer all your questions and prepare your personal health plan. A medical check-up is a one-day service, it doesn’t take long, and this time is an investment in your future health.

How to Prepare for a Check-Up?

To get the most out of your health check-up, write down any questions and concerns you want to discuss with your doctor. Review your family's medical history and bring your previous test results with you to avoid missing important details.

  • It is recommended that you fast before the health check-up. You will need to fast for 8-10 hours, and sometimes 12-14 hours for certain blood tests. Drinking water is allowed, but sugary drinks, caffeine, and smoking are prohibited.
  • You should stop consuming alcohol 24 hours before the examination and opt for a light meal for your last dinner.
  • Avoid consuming foods like red meat, beets, spinach, and broccoli two days before your appointment.
  • If your check-up program includes abdominal scanning, your bladder should be full.
  • For female patients, mammography is recommended between the 3rd-10th days of the menstrual cycle. It is advisable not to use shower gel, body gel, or cream before the mammography screening.
  • In some cases, you may be asked to discontinue medication use.
