What is Teeth Whitening?
Healthy and white teeth are very important for a beautiful smile. Everyone has a natural tooth color, but over time, factors such as tea, coffee, smoking, and antibiotic use can darken the tooth color. With teeth whitening treatment (Bleaching), special gels are used to lighten the color of teeth by 4-5 shades. You can whiten your teeth in just 1 hour with laser treatment at Well Dems Travel Agency clinic, or you can do it at home with your personalized whitening kit.
How Many Types of Teeth Whitening Treatments Are There?
There are basically three methods used in teeth whitening:
Office-Type (In-Clinic) Teeth Whitening Treatment
- In our clinic, laser teeth whitening treatment can be done in about 40 minutes in a single session, lightening the tooth color by up to 4-5 shades. In this method, the gum around the teeth is first covered with a protective gel to prevent the whitening gel from touching the gums and surrounding tissues. The special whitening gel applied only to the tooth surface is left under the laser light for 40 minutes to complete the whitening process. After the whitening process is finished, the gel is removed from the tooth surface. Depending on the degree of tooth discoloration, a second session may be required, but the desired whiteness is usually achieved in a single session.
Home-Type Teeth Whitening Treatment
- After taking an impression of the patient's teeth, a personalized whitening tray and whitening tubes are provided to the patient. By placing a certain amount of whitening gel into the custom-made whitening trays, the patient can achieve a 4-5 shade lightening of their teeth in about a week. The duration of use varies between 5 to 10 days, depending on the degree of tooth discoloration.
Single Tooth Whitening Treatment
- For single teeth that have darkened due to previous root canal treatment or trauma, the intraoral bleaching method is used. Whitening gel is placed inside the single tooth, and the treatment is completed after 4-5 days by checking the shade difference with the surrounding teeth.
Is Teeth Whitening Harmful to Teeth?
Teeth whitening treatment performed under the supervision of a dentist does not harm the teeth. The gels used are tissue-friendly. You can safely undergo whitening treatment under the supervision of a dentist.
How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
The longevity of teeth whitening depends on the patient's consumption of colored beverages (tea, coffee, etc.) and smoking habits. The white tooth color begins to fade over time after whitening. This period lasts between 1 and 2 years. If a maintenance whitening treatment is done every 6 months, the whiteness can be made more permanent.
What Should Be Considered After Teeth Whitening Treatment?
To increase the permanence of the whiteness after teeth whitening, it is recommended to avoid colored beverages for 1 week. You should prefer light tea, avoid coffee altogether, and stay away from dark-colored drinks such as cherry juice, red wine, pomegranate juice, and turnip juice. Smoking should be reduced to a minimum if consumed.
Is Sensitivity and Tingling Experienced After Whitening?
Mild sensitivity may be experienced in the first 12 hours. A desensitizing gel will be provided by your doctor. Desensitizing toothpaste can also be used. If the sensitivity is felt more intensely in patients with a low pain threshold, a pain reliever can be taken on the first day. The feeling of sensitivity completely disappears after 12 hours.
