Implant Prostheses

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are fixed or removable prostheses that are anchored onto implants placed in the jawbone. These dentures can be successfully applied to patients who have no teeth but possess adequate bone levels.

Required Number of Implants for Fixed Dentures in Fully Edentulous Mouths

For a fully edentulous mouth, it is suitable to place 4 to 6 implants in the lower jaw and 6 to 8 implants in the upper jaw for a fixed denture.

Required Number of Implants for Removable Dentures in Fully Edentulous Mouths

To achieve success with implant-supported removable dentures, 2 to 4 implants are needed in the lower jaw, and at least 4 implants are required in the upper jaw.

How to Care for Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures?

Implant-supported fixed teeth are the closest treatment to natural teeth, and they should be cared for similarly. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day, and the junction areas between the prosthesis and gums should be cleaned regularly with interdental brushes, dental floss, and toothbrushes. Dental check-ups should be conducted every 3 to 6 months within the first year.

How Is Implant Treatment Conducted in Fully Edentulous Mouths?

In cases of total edentulism, the health, width, and length of the bone, as well as the suitability of other anatomical structures (vessels, nerves, sinuses), are important. The condition of the bone is evaluated through radiological examinations such as panoramic X-rays, tomography, and RVG.

Required Number of Implants in Case of Complete Edentulism

The condition of the bone and the decision on whether the prosthesis will be fixed or removable is made. The method with the minimum number of implants in fixed systems is known as the All On Four system. In this method, a fixed prosthesis is placed on a minimum of 4 implants. Additionally, fixed porcelain crowns can be placed on 6 or 8 implants directly.

When Are Temporary Teeth Fitted After Implants Are Placed?

After implant treatment, it is necessary to wait at least one week for the stitches to fuse and the mucosa to heal completely. After one week, once the stitches are removed, impressions for the temporary prosthesis can be taken.

How to Care for Implant-Supported Overdentures (Snap-On Dentures)?

Snap-on dentures should be cleaned by brushing them twice a day with a special denture brush. Liquid soap should be used instead of toothpaste for cleaning. They should be thoroughly rinsed and stored dry. Over time, the rubber parts of the denture may loosen, and these parts can be easily replaced.

How Should Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures Be Maintained?

Implant-supported fixed porcelain crowns are permanently bonded onto the implants. These crowns should be brushed with a sweeping motion from the gum to the tooth, similar to natural teeth. They should be cleaned with specially designed superfloss and interdental brushes.
